Imagery is the use of vivid or figurative language that appeals to the five senses. In this example, “chequering” and “streaks of light” appeal to sight.

Compare the imagery of the sun rising in the Balcony Scene to the imagery of the sun rising in this scene. In the balcony scene, it is night and the sun rising metaphors and imagery are premature and fake. In this scene, the images are actually of the sun rising. They are real. Do with this information what you will.
