Daniel Verley, 26, faces charges of reckless endangerment and operating a drone in a New York City public park outside of prescribed area.

According to Bobby Boucher’s Mom, drones are of the devil.

In fairness to Mr. Verley, he was probably just demonstrating real life applications of what he teaches. He is, after all, a teacher at the Academy of Innovative Technology in Brooklyn. And crashing a drone into an empty section of seats during a second-round match at the US Open does use technology and is innovative.

I’m wondering what the equivalent would be for an English teacher–perhaps commandeering the intercom at Wal*Mart and reading Shakespeare or forcing kids at Disney World to diagram sentences on Space Mountain?

I did teach students about the dangers of pay day loans while reading “The Devil and Tom Walker.” I told students I would give them extra credit if they wrote a letter to the local pay day loan center, which prompted a student to volunteer to tie the story to a brick and throw it through the window of Dollar Loan Center down the street.

I immediately canceled the extra credit opportunity.
