Here’s the handout. It’s self-explanatory. Here’s something to write on the board for your administrator:

  • RL.9-10.7 – Analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment.
  • RL.11-12.7 – Analyze multiple interpretations of a story, drama, or poem (e.g., recorded or live production of a play or recorded novel or poetry), evaluating how each version interprets the source text.

Masque of the Red Death Movie #1

Other than adorable cat videos, this is one of the best short films I’ve seen on YouTube. It interweaves scenes from Poe’s life with the short story. It’s perfect to show if you’re teaching Poe background or an entire Poe unit.

Masque of the Red Death” Movie #2

This selection is perfect for a high school class as a review or an aide for those who struggle with Poe’s difficult language. It includes quite a bit of reading by the narrator.  I recommend it highly. As always, however, you should preview it before showing it. There are a lot of dead people in it, as you probably guessed.
