Why Wikipedia is not a Valid Research Paper Resource

Look, I’m not one of those Wikipedia haters. For regular folk like me looking for regular information as a starting point, Wikipedia’s not bad. It should not, however, be taken for a reputable source when it comes to serious matters, such as a research paper.

The next time your students question Wikipedia’s authenticity as a source, show them this graphic, specifically the part where it says “owner.”

Owner

After teammate Matthew Dellavedova scorched the Bulls in game 6, he was listed as the owner. Go Cavs!!!!!!!

This is what happens with open resources. Anyone can edit them, even exuberant Cleveland basketball fans after the Cavaliers trounce the Bulls in a best of 7 series!

By the way, Lebron does own the Bulls (metaphorically)! Go Cavs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello,
I am taking PDE 3145. I’m loving your portfolio. It’s quite intimidating actually–you’ve crushed my hopes of submitting a portfolio by June 15th, but your student work has made me laugh and has me intrigued enough to take more classes.
    Thank you for sharing 🙂
I am the literacy specialist for Vegas PBS Ready To Learn and am seeking online certification btw.

Thanks for the kind words. I put a lot of time in on that portfolio, but don’t let it crush your hopes. It just takes time and experience online is all. And as always, if you need help with technology, ask a student.
